Gianna Homes is collaborating with the Minnesota Creative Arts and Aging Network (MnCAAN) to produce this incredible black-tie event highlighted by wonderful nonstop entertainment (much of it interactive), delicious food and ballroom dancing.

"MnCAAN is dedicated to inspiring older people to activate their artistic abilities," explains MnCAAN Coordinator Pat Samples. "We are thrilled to have this chance to showcase the work of older artists, and to inspire the people attending the gala to be aware of their own creative potential as they get older. The arts are such a wonderful way for seniors to express, and receive appreciation for, the things that have been important to them throughout their lives."

The evening will begin with a champagne reception and a string quartet. As guests mingle, they will enjoy art panels created by elder artists using the theme, What Gives Me Joy. Meanwhile the Prime Time Players, professional senior actors, will entertain them with improv as well as scripted humorous stories; and award-winning Mark Twain impersonator Bill Cosgrove will teach them origami. Other entertainment will include puppeteers.

Each guest also will be given a cocoon on which to write a creative title for a personal life-changing experience they've had. An elder artist will transform the person's title into an elegant form on a butterfly, which will then be placed on a tree. By the end of the evening, the tree will be transformed into a tree of butterflies bearing inspirational artwork.

While enjoying the delicious and elegant buffet catered by The Nectary, Maria Genne of Kairos Dance Theater will perform with participation by elder guests and Gianna residents. A fun, innovative skit telling the Gianna story narrated by Barry ZeVan will follow. "We will use music and theatre to explain how we're changing the way we think about old age. We're going 'beyond bingo' to a more ideal mode." The evening will be capped by ballroom dancing to music provided by the Ambassadors of Swing band.
